New York (CNN) New YorkTimes bestselling author Jodi Kantor talks about writing her new book, “No Easy Days,” about her experiences working at a soup kitchen in India and her relationship with a Sikh man who was killed in the line of duty.
“There are things you do for love and for work,” she said in an interview with CNN.
“I did that, and I still do it, and that’s what makes me a writer.”
Her memoir, “The Other Side of the Door,” came out in October.
Kantor said she has been thinking about her relationship to her husband, Tom, who has cancer.
“Tom has cancer, and he’s not feeling very well, so I had to write about it, too,” she explained.
She said her book was meant to be a “relief book” for people who are struggling.
“I feel so lucky to have a husband who doesn’t have cancer, a family, a career and a job, and who has always been willing to talk about his experience and his struggles and his hardships,” she continued.
The author also shared the first few chapters of her book on her blog, where she also spoke about the book’s title and a particular section of it.
